Setting Up Quantity Breaks

How to Set Up Quantity Breaks

This article defines the configuration process for setting up a Quantity Breaks bundle. It details the step-by-step logic for applying discounts, offering free gifts and add-ons, configuring subscription options, and customizing the storefront display widget.

3. Steps

Step 1: Initiate Bundle Creation

  1. Click on Create Bundle.
  2. Select the Quantity Breaks option.
  3. Click on Create.

Step 2: Select a Template Determine the appropriate layout based on your product variant and offer requirements:

  • IF your products have variants that you want displayed as swatches or labels, OR IF you want to include free gifts and add-ons, THEN select Template One.
  • IF you want variants displayed as compact dropdowns AND want to include free gifts and add-ons, THEN select Template Two.
  • IF your products do not have variants, THEN select Template three (horizontal layout) OR template four (stacked minimal layout).

Step 3: Define Product Placement Choose where the quantity breaks offer will apply. You must select one of the following logic conditions:

  • Apply to all products in the store.
  • Apply to all products, excluding specific products.
  • Apply to specific products only.
  • Apply to a specific collection.

Step 4: Configure Discount Logic Decide the discount structure for the quantity breaks:

  • IF offering a percentage discount (e.g., 10% off), THEN choose percentage off.
  • IF offering a flat rate discount (e.g., $20 off for two items), THEN choose fixed amount.

Step 5: Configure Tiers Configure each purchasing tier (e.g., "Buy One", "Buy Two").

  1. Set the discount amount for the specific tier. (Note: IF you choose not to offer a discount for a tier, THEN leave the discount value blank).
  2. Enter a title (e.g., "Buy One and Get Something" or "Quick Buy").
  3. (Optional) Enter a subtitle (e.g., "you save 15") or leave it blank to remove it.
  4. (Optional) Add a label or tag (e.g., "No discount", "Recommended", or "Most Popular").
  5. Select a default tier. IF a tier is set as default (e.g., the second tier), THEN it will be pre-selected when the customer loads the page.
  6. Customize selection graphics. IF you want to replace the standard radio buttons with images, THEN drag and drop the desired images into the upload area.
  7. IF a customer selects a multi-item tier, THEN the system prompts them to choose specific variants (color, size) for each individual item in that tier (e.g., "extra small" for item one, "large" for item two).

Step 6: Configure Free Gifts

  1. Click on add free gift.
  2. Select the product to be offered as the free gift.
  3. Choose the quantity of the free gift.
  4. Under additional configurations, configure the display. IF you want customers to see the original value of the item, THEN enable the setting to show the original price of the free gift.

Step 7: Configure Add-ons (Upsells)

  1. Click on add-ons.
  2. Select the specific products to offer as add-ons.
  3. Select the quantity.
  4. Select the discount type (fixed amount or percentage) and enter the discount amount.
  5. Enter a title/description (e.g., "Add-on at get 10% off").
  6. Set the default state (selected by default or unselected).
  7. Under additional configurations, set the visibility rules. IF you want the add-on tied to a specific tier, THEN configure it to display only when that tier is selected. IF you want it available regardless of the tier, THEN set it to display all the time.

Step 8: Define Discount Combinations Determine how the quantity breaks interact with other active store discounts. You can explicitly choose to combine the quantity breaks with:

  • Order discounts
  • Product-specific discounts
  • Shipping discounts

Step 9: Configure Subscriptions

  1. Enable the subscription feature to offer "one-time purchase" and "subscribe and save" frequency options.
  2. Select a layout: vertical, horizontal, or simple subscribe and save.
  3. Select the placement: above or below the widget.
  4. (Optional) Configure advanced settings, such as setting the subscription as default or fetching only common selling plans among variants.

Step 10: Configure Display Settings Adjust the visual mechanics of the product options:

  1. Variants: IF you do not want colors displayed as labels, THEN change the setting to swatch. IF you do not want sizes displayed as dropdowns, THEN select the label or swatch option. Click save to preview changes live.
  2. Images: Set the image behavior. IF you want dynamic images, THEN opt to showcase individual variant images. IF this is active, THEN changing the variant (e.g., red to green) will automatically update the displayed image. Alternatively, manually upload a static image or remove images entirely.
  3. Visibility Toggles: You can enable or disable the following elements:
    • Show "compare at price"
    • Display out-of-stock options
    • Show price per item (instead of combined total)
    • Hide the theme variant picker (recommended for a cleaner display, as variants are selected within the widget).

Step 11: Customize Widget Appearance Click on customize to modify the widget's physical appearance. Here you can adjust:

  • Borders (colors, width, radius)
  • Background colors
  • Text (alignment, colors, font weight, font size)
  • Widget settings (swatches, drop-downs, labels, image sizes)
  • Custom CSS

4. Constraints & Edge Cases

  • Subscription Visibility Constraint: IF the subscription feature is enabled, THEN the subscription widget will only be visible on storefront products that are explicitly included in a subscription group within your active subscription app.
  • Widget Placement: The widget automatically positions itself on the individual product page strictly above the native 'Add to Cart' button.
  • Theme Variant Picker Redundancy: IF the quantity breaks widget is active, customers select variants directly inside the widget. It is highly recommended to hide the native theme variant picker to prevent conflicting inputs.

5. Example Scenario

A customer visits a product page where a Quantity Breaks bundle is active.

IF the customer clicks the "Buy 2" tier (which is tagged with a "Most Popular" label and offers a 15% discount), THEN the widget will expand to let them choose variants for both items (e.g., Item 1: Red/Small, Item 2: Green/Large).

IF an add-on is configured for this tier, THEN a checkbox will appear offering a third related item at a 10% discount. IF a free gift is also configured for buying two items, THEN the free gift is automatically displayed.

Once the customer clicks "Add to Cart", the system bundles the two variant selections, the 15% discount, the selected add-on, and the free gift, and pushes them all to the total cart simultaneously.
